For my class...or anyone else who wants to comment :-)
I commented to a reporter for this article back in July. I would like for you to research the issue and provide me a few paragraphs about your thoughts. Answer the questions
1) What was the problem (detail)?
2) Why was this a big issue for MySpace?
3) Who do you think is to blame? Microsoft, MySpace, or Users and why?
4) How can colleges (which have a high population of MySpace users) help control/educate their users? Should MySpace be blocked?

1.) The problem is with the ad posting on the public website called myspace.
2.) The deckoutyour deck.com and similar banners on myspace that install unwanted pop-ups on your machine through unpacthed version of internet explorer.
3.)I think it is a combinatin of users, and businesses. I believe that both ends need to do their parts on keep their computer clean and up to date. The user most of all I believe has take the time to protect their system with up to date anti virus and antispyware protection. At the same time the company must follow similar procedures to ensure that their postings are not sending out spam and spyware.
4.) I don't believe that myspace should be blocked but more secured and monitored. Colleges should host small conferences informing students about myspace and its pros and cons. Student coming out of highschool and living in dormitories have 24 hour access to the internet which gives them plenty of time to communicate over this site. This would be a good way to show student how to use myspace and other similar sites more safely.
1) The problem is about insecurity in the websites. And how could banner ads affect this security.
2) This is something really big, if just for getting in MySpace you can be infected with a virus, lots of people will stop using this great public website. Most of the users are not very expert ones and they usually freak out when the VIRUS word appears. When a virus enter into your system it can do lots of things, like taking important and very confidential information from your pc. I think this could be the beginning of the end of MySpace, because people will stop using this website.
3) I think that every one have some blame in this issue. This is because people should have their pc with the last updates always, but on the other side, Microsoft is selling their software so quickly that they need lots of updates and that don’t assure you that now your things are safe.
4) I don’t believe in blocking things because of a problem, I think that problems are there so people can solve them. So I thing that colleges could help users by educating them, so they can learn what types of weapons users have against this types of things.
1. The problem is that an infected banner ad was put up on myspace.
2. The issue for myspace is that they don’t have the proper security to find and stop something like this before it becomes a problem. This will also impact the trust and confidence of users.
3. Although it is important for users to protect themselves, myspace is to blame for being the outlet of such a big problem.
4. Colleges need to do more to stress the issue of security to students and offer all the latest upgrades for the computers of students. I definitely don’t think myspace should be blocked; this would only hinder the ability of students to learn how to deal with these kinds of issues.
1) The problem is the lack of security issues that exists in the World Wide Web. My Space is one of the web sites who is struggling with the problem.
2) I love my space beside all the junk stuff that exists. My Space makes my life much easier. I have friends in Germany, Sweden and Eritrea (Africa). My Space gives me the opportunity to interact with them at any point of time. It’s the difference between me paying for a phone call or using my space for free. You decide, so God bless Tom! The problem is like I mentioned before the lack of security. It is a big problem because the problem still exists, and will exist in the future until it gets solved. I personally believe (I may be wrong)…My space could solve the problem but we are living in business era or better said recycle era. If your Computer doesn’t get effected or you don’t have the urgency to install security software or don’t spend money by taking it to help desk to fix it since you bought it nobody makes money. It apply the same principle with cars, for example; GMC can manufacture cars that can run for years and years but they don’t because they want you to come to them to buy the latest model at the end of the day when you tiered of spending money on your car of fixing it.
3) There is nobody to blame here except the user. The user should be more aware the Web he/she visits and not to click on “click through”, not to download (music, games, pictures…so on). The user shouldn’t fall on the trap of computer companies, hackers and advertising companies; all they want to do is get more money out of your packet. So protect your PC with up to date anti virus and antispyware protection which gives them less opportunity to invade your privacy.
4) It’s sad to say but People always learn after the damage is done, to avoid this students should learn about computers and how to secure their computers effectively. That’s why I am taking this class! Or the School should give classes to students before they hand the Computers or before they enter the campus. My Space shouldn’t be blocked; running away from the problem is not a solution, if we still believe there is a problem.
1. The problems is a third party banner had may have infected myspace users unknowingly
2.Because they unwilling were the host for this type of attack.
3.Everyone is to blame, You can blame Microsoft for not delivering a fix for this before this exploit in there previous updates and service packs. You can blame Myspace for not doing a background check and monitor what their rented space is actually doing. But also in a sense you could blame the users for not following up with their updates like they are suppose to.
4.Since there are many ways that you can scan for updates and what is already installed the school could develop a controller and set up a filter in a sense to check if this controller is installed if not then ask the user if it can be installed if its answered no then myspace would be blocked, giving out an error saying its a security threat. But if they answer yes then they could install the controller which would scan to see if certain fixes are installed, and if so then the page would be displayed
